Today, we revised and edited the drafts of the friendly letter, and they are looking great.  We used a checklist to analyze our own writing, then got a peer to look at it with fresh eyes.  We will refine a bit more tomorrow, then The final copy will be due on Friday, September 19th

Today,  we worked through the planning stages of the friendly letters; everyone did very well brainstorming, then organizing their information.   Students are making great choices on what they will write - if it means a lot, write about it, and the writing voice will be great.By tomorrow, everyone should have the draft of the letter completed for the beginning of class.

Today, we introduced the Article of the Week.  This will be handed out every Monday, and is expected to be returned, completed by Tuesday.  Students are to demonstrate their understanding of the text by writing comments and notes in the margins ( the messier, the better!), and to answer the food for thought questions at the end, for a total value of 10 marks each time.We also began talking about the different levels of thinking, using an essay to work our way through Bloom's levels of thought.  We will finish that up tomorrow.Articles of the Week are due tomorrow: it is posted below if you lost/forgot it (or if you weren't here!)

Today, we  used the Article of the Week to review Bloom's Taxonomy.  You were to read the article, making notes as you went, then we reviewed the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.  Your next task was to create a question for each level, based on the article.  Please have these questions ready for tomorrow, as your next task is to choose three of the questions displayed on the board, and we need everyone's contributions. I realize you don't have the Bloom's flip charts at home with you; I've shared a link to a document that serves a similar purpose.

As we begin our multi-genre study on the theme of "Freedom"  complete your initial piece of writing or expression on how you define "Freedom".  Basically, you are recording, in whichever genre fits best, your initial interpretation of the concept of Freedom.  It is due Friday.
