Research essays are now due.  When you hand them in, please include: 1) Notemaking ( at least 15 points from 3 different sources),2) outline, 3) draft with revisions,4) peer-edited and self-edited checklist, and 5) the final copy. This week, we will talk about turning  that same information into an oral presentation, and hopefully get a few done by the end of this week.

Happy Bonus Snow Day!   We should aim to have Part II of 1984 read by the end of this week.  There is an ongoing activity for Part II posted below.  I'll also post a guide to getting through the "book-within-a-book"section; I'll have that done later this morning.Don't forget the reflection for Part I that was due yesterday - if you had typed yours, and could e-mail it, that would be great.  I could get a head start on marking them. Also, have a look at the Multi-Genre project assignment - we'll talk about a good number of items to have in there, as well as the marking rubric - let me know what you think tomorrow.

We have spent a couple of days on a question-developing activity; there were excellent questions developed from 1984, and equally excellent answers.By Monday, please have these two assignments completed:1) Read to the end of Part 1 (page 107) 2) Write a reflection of approximately one page regarding the first part of the novel.  This reflection could go in any direction, but must demonstrate one reading skill from each of the inferential and evaluative/personal/critical levels of thinking.  Make sure to use precise information from the text ( or other, connecting texts) when backing up your ideas.

Students should be almost finished with researching their topics for the Research Unit, and be able to demonstrate by Monday that they know how to make point-form notes from a text (probably a website).  Most students are using the note-making forms provided, but looseleaf is fine as long as they have written down all the required information about the source (author name, website name, title of section or article, URL of the site, date it was last updated, and the date they looked at it)Monday, students will organize this information into an outline, and begin the drafts of their essays.
