Crosswalks

The sole purpose of crosswalks are to mark a part of roads where pedestrians have the right of way to cross. They’re too keep residents safe when crossing very active streets in school zones. There are multiple new crosswalks that Miramichi placed around the city, and several crosswalks that Miramichi should place.

The Rotary Interact Club has taken into account that there are two needed crosswalks around the area of James M. Hill Memorial High School, and Dr. Losier Middle School. They have created a committee to influence the city to make two new crosswalks to keep students safe on the streets. This committee claims that one crosswalk should be placed on the busy three-way stop of Henderson Street and Victoria Avenue.  “Pedestrians are in the scenario of crossing from one sidewalk to the other while having to be aware of this hectic three-way stop.” Connor Blakely of the Interact Club claims.

The other crosswalk that is wanted is also on Henderson Street. There is a side walk that ends, and students are found crossing onto the street to get to the other sidewalk on Old Station Road. “It’s improper and unsafe.” Connor Blakely adds. Recent news shows that this specific crosswalk has actually been okayed by the city. Further updates will be expected as the Interact Club continues to work.
