Mi'kmaq story teller and singer came to James M. Hill on September 28th to speak on Orange Shirt Day. Augustine spoke to students about the history and customs of the Mi'kmaq people, as well as different types of medicine and healers they have used for ages. To finish the presentation she sang a song of Mi'kmaq culture and asked students and staff to sing along with her. Donna Augustine is a Mi'kmaq traditional elder whose spirt name is Thunderbird Turtle woman. She is from the Elsipogtog First Nations Reserve and when she is not there, she travels over the world to speak about her culture and to attend ceremonies and confrences for indegious rights.
