Grade 9 students at James M. Hill High School will be receiving Netbooks next week to not only to use in school, but to also take home. The target date for passing out the Netbooks is Monday, October 3. The Grade 9 students are the benefactors of JMH having been selected as one of only three District 16 schools to be part of a provincial Department of Education “Demonstration School” pilot project. The other two District 16 schools are Blackville and Eleanor W. Graham School in Rexton. All three schools will be part of a research project to determine if one-to-one technology provides students with an enriched learning environment, especially with regard to individualized learning, student engagement, and overall achievement. In addition to the Grade 9 students receiving their Netbooks, JMH also has received seven carts that contain class sets of Netbooks that can be rolled into Grades 10 – 12 classrooms. District 16 Technology Mentors, Joey Savoy and Rick Hayward, met with the Grade 9 students and their parents last week to provide information on “Guidelines for Care and Use of Student Netbooks” and “The Student Use Agreement”.
