Wii Physics: Day 1

Posted: November 17, 2010

Today marks the start of Wii Physics for the Physics 122 class.  We are using the Wii remote, sensor bar, and Balance Board to collect data.  Any calculations are done by hand or with Microsoft Excel. The students will cycle through five different labs, some of which we didn't cover in class yet so the students have some independant learning to accompany the labs. Check out the image galleries and (soon to come) video!   Topics Covered: 1D Collisions - Conservation of Momentum and Energy (wiimote-1d_collisions.pdf) Simple Harmonic Motion (wiimote-shm.pdf) Forces on an Inclined Plane (wiimote-inclined_plane.pdf) Normal Force and Centre of Gravity (wiimote-nrml_frc_and_cog.pdf) Acceleration of Multiple Masses (wiimote-acc_mult_masses.pdf) Wii Physics at JMH uses a great, and user friendly, program developed by Martyn D. Wheeler (http://wiiphysics.site88.net/index.html) to collect our data.
