The Miramichi Kinsmen and School District 16 are pleased to accept film entries for the first annual Kin Film Festival.  All School District 16 students are invited to participate.  Films can be submitted in one of two categories: Open and The Kinsmen Category.  The top 10 films in each category will be screened on May 7th, 2011 at Miramichi Empire Studio 5.  Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded for the winners in each category.   Visit the Kin Film Fest page for more information.

Check the list posted by the main office or the library for your room assignment.  This study block cycle (sb_cycle_10.pdf) runs from April 11 - 28th. Remember that computer request forms should be given to Mrs. Corlette by the end of period 1 the day you need to use a computer. Tutoring session, supported by the Boomerang Program, resume this cycle.  Let your grade 9 and 10 teacher know if you want to receive some extra help during study block.

Spring Fling week starts next week also. Each day there will be a theme to dress up to and games in the lounge. Monday we will be kicking the week off with Stop light day and a game of Red light, Green light at lunch. So starting Monday make sure you show your school spirit and dress to impress! There will be signs, Facebook groups and announcements everyday to let you know which days are which! Then Thursday April 7th will be the Dance. The theme is Into the Wild, the dance starts at 8 and is over at 11. Doors close at 9. Tickets will only be sold till that Thursday.

On Wednesday March 23rd from 6:30-7:30 we are having a course information session for parents of students in grades 9, 10 and 11. After some brief information given in the theatre, parents will have the opportunity to do a walk through  for course information in the Student Lounge/Entry of the school.  At this time they can speak with teachers in order to get information on the content and difficulty level of courses offered at JMH. Over the next week students will be selecting their courses for the 2011-2012 school year. Students will select their courses March 28th.

There will be two information sessions on Student Financial Assitance for students who are planning on attending University. The first will be in the James M. Hill theatre at 1:40 for all grade 12 students. The second will be held at Miramichi Valley High School on April 28 and is open to all students and parents. The speaker will be Caroline Boulay from the Department of Post Secondary Education and Labour, Student Financial Services.

This year's variety show will take place on Wednesday March 16th 2011, the wednesday directly after the March break. Tickets will go on sale after the March break aswell, the afternoon show will be sold for $3 and will occur during 5th and 6th period and the night show will be $5 at 7:00pm. Please make sure to come out and support your fellow student's talents. For all variety show act's there will be a dress rehearsal on Tuesday March 15th 2011 after school.

This week at James M. Hill is the yearly Winter Carnival. Throughout the week students and teachers will be engaging in various activities. On Wednesday it is pink day and there will also be a snow sculpting competition in front of the school. On Thursday at lunch there will be a snow shoeing obstacle course, and finally on Friday it's Teachers vs. Students in the Golden Boot hockey game. Also students will get the chance to vote for their Winter Carnival king and queen.
