The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the largest and most dynamic industries in Canada today. This course is intended to introduce the tourism industry to high school students. This course will place a strong emphasis on tourism in the Atlantic region with emphasis on the five major sectors of tourism. 

The course will investigate possible careers in tourism while allowing students to learn experientially about business in tourism and how it is promoted.

 ASSESSMENT

Projects, Assignments, Class work ,Tests & Quizzes 80%

Final Assessment 20%

 Students will be given assignments on a weekly basis based on topics covered in class. Assignments are to be passed in at the beginning of class on or before the date specified. Deductions will be made for assignments passed in late. 

Punctuation, grammar and neatness will be taken into account on all assignments, presentations and projects as they are extremely important when working in business.

 COURSE TOPICS

 Identify and appreciate the Atlantic tourism region.

Demonstrate the workplace skills, knowledge and attitudes required for entry into the hospitality and tourism industry.

 Identify the five sectors of the Hospitality and Tourism Industry

 Evaluate the impact of marketing strategies and trends on the Hospitality and Tourism industry.

 Understand entrepreneurship and the role played in the Hospitality and Tourism industry.

 Identify and explore potential career paths in the Hospitality and Tourism industry

Students will use the online version of this courses on days that they are home.
