This project is called Zentangle Designs - JMH Edition.

What is a Zentangle? Put simply, a zentangle is form of meditative doodling that has patterns, or tangles, put together to form an intricate design.

Your design will be in the form of the letters JMH.

First make the outline of the letters JMH on a sheet of paper. They can be block letters, stylized or graffiti style, its up to you.

Next, divide the space inside your letter outlines. You can use straight lines, squiggly lines or shapes, again its up to you.

Inside each of these spaces that you’ve created, you will complete a different design.  Have a look online for Zentangle designs for ideas that you might like.

Once you’ve filled each space with a different design, use a black pen or sharpie to make the lines darker.  You can leave the letters black and white, or you can add colour… I’ll leave that up to you!

Have fun, be creative! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Email me - doug.trevors@nbed.nb.ca

Something a little different this week. Think about all of the works of art we've looked at this Semester that represent people: Think of the Mona Lisa or American Gothic, for example.  I would like for you to try to recreate one or more of them using photography.

So, imagine recreating Da Vinci's Mona Lisa...You could dress in a similar way to her, recreate the background, and pose like she did, etc.. as closely to the original painting as possible....then capture it using photography.

There are all kinds of famous paintings to choose from, Ex:  Girl with a pearl earing (Johannes Vermeer), American Gothic (Grant Wood), Whistler's Mother (James McNeill Whistler), The Screem (Edvard Munch), Self Portrait (Van Gogh), etc..

So...

1. Choose a famous portrait. Look closely at it.

2. Determine what items you will need to re-create it (clothing, props, background etc.)

3. Re-create the image and photograph yourself (or a willing participant!).

Send me the results! doug.trevors@nbed.nb.ca

The Group of Seven was a school of Canadian landscape painters. Founded in 1920 and disbanded in 1933, the group presented the dense, northern forests of Canada as an almost spiritual force. Their paintings of Canada’s rugged wind-swept forest panoramas were eventually equated the idea of Canadian strength and independence. Their oaintings were noted for their bright colours and simple. dynamic forms.

Watch the following video on the Group of Seven and complete the questions that follow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZJKan25NMA&t=1020s

1.     List the full names of all the members of the Group of 7.

2.     How were the paintings of the Group of Seven received by the ‘traditional’ art critics of the time they were painted? Did people like the paintings or not? Give examples of what was said about the art.

3.     Why did the group of 7 choose to paint the Northern Wilderness instead of the settled urban areas?

4.     How is the Group of 7’s painting style different from the mainstream European style of painting that was current in the 1920’s?

5. Of the members of the Group of Seven, which artist’s work most appeals to you? What is it about their work that you like?

Feel free to explore other resources to help complete the questions.

Remember, answers in full and complete sentences please!

Email me your completed work - doug.trevors@nbed.nb.ca

For this week, your task is to watch the following video:

Top 10 Iconic Paintings

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tStzWPK_n9U

After viewing the video, choose one (1) of the artists featured.

Do some research on the artist and answer the following questions about that artist…

Name of the Artist?

When and where was the artist born?  Where did the artist live?  Where and when did they die?

What style of painting did the artist specialize in? What are the titles of some of the artist’s most famous works? Where can they be found?

What influenced the artist in their work? Were they interested in representing events, social movements or just in representing life in general?

Why did you choose this particular artist? What was it that made you decide to research them?

REMINDER: Please use full and complete sentences in your answers!

As usual, email me your responses - doug.trevors@nbed.nb.ca

One of the good things that has come out of this whole Pandemic situation is the fact that humour is still alive and well and on display on the internet.  One of the main ways people are dealing with the situation is through the use of Memes.

What exactly is a Meme?

It is a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc., that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users.

Your Task this week is to Create a Meme about your Pandemic Experience.

You can use a still image, .gif or video to create your meme.  The sky is the limit and your creativity is the key.

Please keep in mind that whatever you create should be school appropriate!

E-mail me your creations - doug.trevors@nbed.nb,ca

I can't wait to see what you come up with! Exceptional ones may be shared with other Staff members!

For this Analysis YOU will choose a piece of art that YOU like!  It can be a piece of traditional art that could be found in an Art Gallery OR it can be –

the cover from your favourite CD,

Vinyl Album Cover,

Video Game,

Movie Poster,

Art in your House,

or something I haven’t thought of!

In order to complete this assignment, you will need to answer the following questions after you have chosen your art piece:

1. What is the art from and why did you choose it? (Include the name of the piece, date, name of the game, album, movie, so I can find it to have a look.)

2. How did you discover this art? (By chance? Did you search it out? Favourite movie, music, game?)

3. What is it about this artwork that appeals to you?  (BE SPECIFIC! Explain what it is in detail why this works for you.)

Please use full and complete sentences and provide LOTS of information! The more you can describe and why, the better picture I will get!

The Miramichi is known the world over for many things... Timber, world class Salmon fishing (and now Stripped Bass), and for it's ties to Ireland.  Your task for this week is to try your hand at drawing Celtic Knots.

Watch the video on basic knot drawing and practice a few until you have it.  Then try some of the more complicated ones found in the Web Links tab above.

Video #1 - Beginner Celtic Knots

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DY1ssumuYs&list=PLkYZuARfRKO_OY_UwfoFbncw-GktPurw8&index=13&t=16s

Video #2 - Linked Hearts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2wphr0efRg

Video #3 - Celtic Cross

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGw5kapr38c&t=2s

You can find more Videos by Searching for "Celtic Design David Nicholls" on YouTube.

Take your time and remember to draw lightly until you are happy with your lines. Then you can darken them up.

You will be able to do several attempts on a sheet of paper.  Once you have the technique down, try to make more and more complicated designs. Feel Free to add colour to your designs.  The only limit is your imagination!
