Digital Tech 120 - Today we will put the skills you have learned with photoshop to good use. In honour of the season, we will use the various photoshop tools (selection, lasso, magic wand, eye drop, healing brush, brushes, clone stamp etc.) to transform a picture of ourselves into the inhabitants of the planet Pandora, the Navi. Before we get started, please take a look at the following website to increase your existing knowledge of photoshop filters. Use a new file project and experiment with some of these. http://blog.echoenduring.com/2010/01/20/10-photoshop-filters-you-should-... Once you have your picture (taken in class and sent through SmartSync), create a new folder on your account within your photoshop folder and rename it "Avatar". This is where you will store all of your needed files. Next, we will go to the following website tutorial: http://www.icanbecreative.com/create-james-camerons-avatar-movie-poster-...

There are many basic concepts that underly the field of design.  Just like any good rules, they have to be learned and understood before they can be broken.  Keeping these fundamental rules in mind when designing a graphic art project will make your project much more interesting, visually appealing and easy to consume.   Although other principles of design exist, the 4 that we are going to focus on and discuss are Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity.     Using the internet as a resource define each of the 4 design principles.  Why are these principles important?  Find an example of a photo online that uses each principle.  Save each photo.   Another important concept that you will come across in Digital Imaging is the Rule of Thirds.  Give a detailed explanation of the Rule of Thirds   Put all of this information in a PowerPoint Your Powerpoint should include the following:   Title Slide - Your name, Digital Technologies, Date (Value 1) 4 Slides - Each slide should contain a definition of one of the Principles and a supporting picture. (Value 12) 1 Slide - Should contain a detailed explanation of the Rule of Thirds and a supporting picture. (Value 2)   Total 6 Slides - Value 15     Use the following website as a resource.  Do not use any of the pictures from this file in your Powerpoint   http://www.presentationzen.com/chapter6_pages.pdf

Eng 112 - Students should be working on their Poe comparison essay drafts. The computer lab is booked, so take advantage of this glorious opportunity to dazzle me with your work ethic. Do not forget to print out a copy of your draft for editing purposes. In class we worked on Introductions. This work will continue on Thursday. You are to write a 5 paragraph essay on the similarities between Edgar Allen Poe’s three stories: “Tell-Tale Heart”,  “The Black Cat” and “Cask of Amontillado”.   In order to discuss how these three stories are similar, feel free to use the following suggestions: -          Use direct examples from the stories (description, plot similarities, characters etc.) -          Use direct quotations from any of the three stories -          Compare Poe’s writing style. Examples may include his use of foreshadowing, suspense, irony, atmosphere, point of view, symbolism, etc.   Evaluation: Introduction - Provide a clear thesis statement, presented in an original way. Remember: a thesis statement clearly states the  purpose of the essay. Body      -        There should be 3 separate paragraphs which compare specific elements of the three stories. Possible paragraph ideas are: -          A paragraph on plot similarities. -          A  paragraph on Poe’s writing style the types of figures of speech he uses -          A paragraph on Poe’s use of figurative language (suspense, foreshadowing, atmosphere -          A paragraph which includes contrasts (differences) can be used as well. -          you should be able to support your comparisons using quotes or direct examples from the stories. Conclusion - Give a restatement of the original purpose. It helps to mention the points covered in the body of the essay and tie up remaining loose ends. (ask yourself: have I accomplished what I had originally intended when I started writing? Have I met my objectives stated in the purpose?). Eng 111 - Continue your work on Act 3 of MacBeth. This work should be completed for Friday (don't forget to give thought to your creative extensions!) Digital Tech 120 - Follow the posts from Thursday and Friday to get a list of the assignments you need to have passed in to me.
