Hi everyone. I hope you had a great weekend!

Today we are going to continue with our letter writing unit. You should have finished up your personal letter, and you can email that to me.

The next letter you will be preparing is a business letter. I’ve uploaded the PowerPoint slides that I’ve already begun going over with you. You can skip to slide seven and read to the end of the PowerPoint.  This will explain why we write business letters and how to write a business letter.

I’ve also uploaded a Word document titled “Business Letters.” This will explain all the important components of a business letter and provide a sample business letter.

For today’s class, please just read over these two documents and make sure you understand everything you’re reading. If you have any questions, just let me know. You are not required to begin writing your letter today.

The documents are: Letter Writing (PowerPoint Document)

                           Business Letters (Word Document)

I would also like you to spend fifteen minutes reading your personal novel.

Important Note:  It is absolutely necessary that you go onto Teams each day at the beginning of English class and send me a notification.  This will inform me that you have seen the day’s assignment(s) and I will be able to record your attendance.  I also dedicate this hour to working with your class and answering any questions you may have.

Also, the school will be open tomorrow (Tuesday) from 12 to 1 if you would like to drop by to retrieve anything from your locker.

Hi everyone. I hope you had a great weekend!

Today I’m having you begin your poetry project. Like the short story project you just completed, this project offers an abundance of choices, so I’m sure there will be something for everyone.  Also, like your last project, I’m open to hearing your own project ideas if you have something different in mind.

I’ve attached the project sheet, so be sure to read it over carefully! You will complete one activity from column 1 and one activity from column 2 or 3.  You are only completing two projects in total.

In addition, you will be presenting one of your projects to a small group of your peers and they will be evaluating you. You can decide which project you would like to present but read over the peer evaluation form to be sure you are selecting a project that you feel you can present well based on the evaluation criteria.

The project will be due and peer evaluations will take place on Monday, November 22nd.

As you work your way through your assignments, please let me know if you have any questions. I’m always happy to help!

I’ve uploaded your poetry project and your poetry project peer evaluation form.

Hi everyone. We almost have a week of distance learning under our belt!

Today I would like you to wrap up your journals by typing or handwriting your final copy of each.

I will ask that you hang onto them, with the hopes that we’ll be back to school next week, and I will collect them from you then.  I can also print them for you at that time if required.

Remember, this month I’m requesting that you pass in your preplanning pages, so be sure to save your copy for each journal.

I would also like you to spend fifteen minutes reading your personal novel today.

If you have any questions, let me know and have a wonderful weekend.  Hopefully, we’ll be back together next week!

Hi everyone. We almost have a week of distance learning under our belt!

I hope you didn’t experience too much difficulty with yesterday’s Poetic Device Activity. Today I’ve uploaded the answer key so you can check your answers.  If there is anything you’re not sure of, please let me know.

I’ve also uploaded a sheet of poetry terms for you to look over. Each term is defined with an example provided. All of this is to help you prepare for the poetry project that I will be assigning on Monday.

In addition, I would like you to spend at least fifteen minutes reading your personal novel today.

To recap, this is what you are to do for today’s English class:

  • 1.    Correct your Poetic Device Activity Sheet.
  • 2.    Read the sheet of Poetry Terms.
  • 3.    Read your novel for 15 minutes.

Thanks, and enjoy your weekend. Hopefully, I will see you next week!

Hello, everyone, and welcome to day four of home learning!

Hopefully, you had success with your first journal assignment for November, and today I would like you to get started on your second journal entry.

I will ask that you complete numbers 1 to 5 today of the steps I’ve outlined below:

  1. 1.    Select your journal topic.
  2. 2.    Preplanning: List all the items you can speak about regarding this topic.
  3. 3.    Number the items in the order you would like to present them.
  4. 4.    Begin drafting your journal.
  5. 5.    Edit your journal.
  6. 6.    Prepare a final copy (typed or handwritten in blue or black ink).

Remember, this month I’m requesting that you pass in your preplanning pages, so be sure to save your copy for each journal.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to day four of home learning!

Yesterday we began our Poetry Unit, and I asked you to read over the PowerPoints I provided for you.

Today, you will practice working with these poetic/literary devices that you learned about by demonstrating you can recognize them when you see them. I’ve uploaded a worksheet that I would like you to complete. There are fifteen different sentences, and each sentence contains as least one device.  See if you can detect these devices.

If you don’t have a printer, simply number a piece of paper from one to fifteen and jot down your answers.  You’ll notice that sentences 11 and 15 contain more than one device.  Feel free to refer to your PowerPoint notes when completing this activity, and I’ll provide you with the answers tomorrow.

Also, I would like you to spend at least fifteen minutes reading your personal novel today.

Thanks, and if you have any questions, let me know!
