Hi Folks!

Our last week of online learning will involve you taking a close look at iconic Canadian music artists. Check out the list on the following link and have fun exploring these artsts. Undoubtedly, some of them will be new to you. Maybe you disagree with the list. If so, formulate your own list of Iconic Canadian Artsits, but be sure to include artists from as early as 1970 :) I hope you enjoy this activty and in doing so, I hope you discover some new genres/artists of music to add to your playlists.

Music 112 June 8-12

Here we are....our last week of online learning.

This week we will look at a few genres that emerged post 1900:

Ragtime, Jazz, Blues and Musical Theatre. There is A LOT to unpack within these genres, and we could spend an entire semester on these styes alone, but do your best to listen and explore as much as possible.Check out these videos and attached powerpoint which give you a summary and a starting point from which to begin your exploraton of these styles.

This week you can continue to work on your Music Style Evolution study.

You can use the attched assignment as a guide to assist you in reseraching the evolution of your favourite music style. Every music style evolves and changes over time. Sometimes these changes are as a result of cultural and historical events and moments, and vice versa, meaning sometimes music can directly affect culture, and how we think and feel about certain topics. Music 10 May 11th-15th

MUSIC IN MEDIA

Hi Folks!! Over the next few weeks we will take a look at how music is used effectively in Media.

This week I'd like you to explore the use of music in TV advertisements and commercials. www.youtube.com is a great resource where you can find milliosn of TV ads. But check out this particular video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a4yM_wPvAo You may agree or disagree with the findings and opinions of this video, but feel free to create your own montage of a simiilar nature, where you outline the top ten best TV ads which use music effectively to enhance the product. If making a video is out of yoru wheelhouse, try it anyway :), and if you don't have the necessary tools to do that, old school pen and paper will work just as well.

Extension Activity:

Now that you're familiar with Mixcraft, you can create a jingle to be used in a TV or Radio Ad. You can use a product from any era (real or fictional). Record yourself, or anybody who is willing to be the "actor" for you. Have FUN!!!

Music 112 May 11th-15th

BEETHOVEN CONTINUED

Continue your study of Beethoven's works this week.

I love his work so much! You will need a lifetime, but at minimum two weeks to explore/study Beethoven's works. A musical genius, he wrote countless pieces of incredibly beautiful pieces of music in several different styles. Check out these videos over the next two weeks and listen, listen, listen! There is also a great film, "Immortal Beloved" about Beethoven, which I highly recommend you take a look at.
