Hello, everyone, and welcome to day four of home learning!

Hopefully, you had success with your first journal assignment for November, and today I would like you to get started on your second journal entry.

I will ask that you complete numbers 1 to 5 today of the steps I’ve outlined below:

  1. 1.    Select your journal topic.
  2. 2.    Preplanning: List all the items you can speak about regarding this topic.
  3. 3.    Number the items in the order you would like to present them.
  4. 4.    Begin drafting your journal.
  5. 5.    Edit your journal.
  6. 6.    Prepare a final copy (typed or handwritten in blue or black ink).

Remember, this month I’m requesting that you pass in your preplanning pages, so be sure to save your copy for each journal.

I would also like you to spend fifteen minutes reading your personal novel today.

Thanks, and if you have any questions, let me know!

Important Note:  It is absolutely necessary that you go onto Teams each day at the beginning of English class and send me a notification.  This will inform me that you have seen the day’s assignment(s) and I will be able to record your attendance.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to day four of home learning!

Yesterday we began our Poetry Unit, and I asked you to read over the PowerPoints I provided for you.

Today, you will practice working with these poetic/literary devices that you learned about by demonstrating you can recognize them when you see them. I’ve uploaded a worksheet that I would like you to complete. There are fifteen different sentences, and each sentence contains as least one device.  See if you can detect these devices.

If you don’t have a printer, simply number a piece of paper from one to fifteen and jot down your answers.  You’ll notice that sentences 11 and 15 contain more than one device.  Feel free to refer to your PowerPoint notes when completing this activity, and I’ll provide you with the answers tomorrow.

Also, I would like you to spend at least fifteen minutes reading your personal novel today.

Thanks, and if you have any questions, let me know!

Important Note:  It is absolutely necessary that you go onto Teams each day at the beginning of English class and send me a notification.  This will inform me that you have seen the day’s assignment(s) and I will be able to record your attendance.

Hi, Everyone!

By now you should have both of your November journals completed, and I will collect them when we return to in-person learning.  Hopefully, this will be soon!

Today, we are going to begin our Poetry Unit.  Before I assign your poetry project, I would like to have you read some notes on poetry terms and devices. Some of this material will be a review of information you’ve already learned, and some of it may be new to you.  Unfortunately, I was unable to post the PowerPoints on my Teacher Page today, but you will find them on Teams under "Files."

Read the notes in the following order:

  • 1.    Poetry Notes
  • 2.    The Language of Poetry
  • 3.    The Sound of Poetry
  • 4.    Rhythm
  • 5.    Rhyme Activities

Just spend the class reading through the five PowerPoints and reach out if you have any questions. I hope you enjoy the rhyme scheme activity.

Thanks, and have a great day!

For the next couple of classes, I thought we could focus on the November journals.  You have two to complete this month (one assigned topic and one topic of choice), so you can spend today working on your first journal.  In doing so, I would like you to follow the list of steps I’ve outlined below:

  • 1.    Select your journal topic.
  • 2.    Preplanning: List all the items you can speak about regarding this topic.

This month, I’m asking that you to pass in your preplanning page with each of your journals.

I’ve uploaded your assigned journal topic on my teacher page and on Teams.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.  I’ll be happy to help!

Hello and welcome to day two of home learning!

Today, I would like you to continue working on the Creative Ads Project that you started yesterday.  I will allow until the end of the week to complete this assignment.

Please remember that you are to be taking two completely different approaches with each ad you create, and you must indicate (on the back or bottom of your page) who your target audience is for each.

If you have any questions as you work your way through this assignment, please get in touch with me.  Have a great day!

Hello and welcome to day two of home learning!

For today’s class, I would like you to type the final copy of your personal letter, and I’ve uploaded sample letters for you to use as a guide. I recommend using Times New Roman, size 12 font.

Before getting started, ensure you’ve edited your draft copy properly by going through the following checklist:

  • 1.    My letter is paragraphed properly (introduction, body paragraph(s), conclusion).
  • 2.    My sentence structure is correct.
  • 3.    I’ve checked my spelling of all words.
  • 4.    I’ve read my letter aloud to ensure I haven’t overused any words.
  • 5.    My word choice is grade appropriate.

Once completed, you can submit your letter through email or Teams.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with me.  Have a great day!

Hi, everyone:

I will ask that you begin working on the Creative Ads Project that I explained to you on Thursday, and I’ve uploaded a copy on my teacher page and on Teams for your convenience.

Remember that you are to take two completely different approaches with each ad you create and be sure to indicate (on the back or bottom of your page) who your target audience is for each.

For inspiration and to help you get started, you may wish to browse magazine ads, newspaper ads, internet ads, etc. and determine the various approaches used.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.  I’ll be happy to help!

Hi Everyone,

I've posted your last assignment for this school year, and it is one that will give you an opportunity for reflection.  I believe you'll find that it is quite straightforward, but should you have any questions, please get in touch with me. I’ll be happy to help.

Also, I want to say that it has been a pleasure having each of you in my grade 10 class this year, and although the school year took an unexpected turn, it was nice to see that you were up for the challenge.

I hope you have a wonderful summer, and I look forward to seeing you in September!

Ms. Courtney
