English 113 Period 2 - Essay Update

Hi Everyone!  I have had a few people send in their essays, so I would like to take this week to find out what stage everyone else is in.  Could you either respond to the assignment in "Teams," or email me to let mw know the following:

Is your draft done?  Did you get an introduction done?  How are you doing on conclusions?  Where are you running into trouble?  What do you need to know for the next steps?

Once I see where everyone is, we can figure out the lessons for the following weeks.

Remember, though, that everyone's writing process is different, and I understand that some of you are working full-time. The questions above don't necessarily represent where you have to be right now; I am just wondering what you might need for future lessons.  Let me know!

English 111 Per 4: Research Essays - Update

Happy Monday!  This week, let's start getting back together by letting me know where you are with your essay.  The assignment will just get you to summarize where you are, and what issues you may be having.  Remember that everyone's process is different, and many of you are working.  Thus, there is no definitive point where you SHOULD be, I am just looking to see where YOU are, and what further resources you need in the upcoming weeks. 
 
Here is the assignment:

By the end of this week, please send me a status report regarding the research essay, so we can figure out what we should work on over the next couple of weeks:  Is your intro done?  Do you have a basic draft completed?  How did the conclusion go?  What are you having trouble with?  What do you need for the next steps?

Economics 120 - Credit assignment for Outcome 4.1 - Examine GDP

For those of you completing the credit, please start with this background on what GDP is, and how it is calculated, then we will expand that into Real vs. Nominal GDP, and business cycles.

Economics 120 Week of May 3rd

Hi Everyone!  Over the next few weeks, we will look at some of the ways that we measure the economy - this will be very interesting as we consider how the pandemic will affect everything.  This week, we will learn about the GDP (Gross Domestic Product), and how it is one measure of how the economy is doing.

I have found a decent video on Youtube that explains things quite clearly.  Watch that, then complete the questions in the assignment posted below.  This will be on Teams, as well; turn it in there, or at my email  jean.macdonald2@nbed.nb.ca

Language Arts 9 Period 3: May 3rd

Happy Monday!  I hope you all got a chance to enjoy the great weather on Sunday.  I am SO impressed with the great responses I am getting from all of you; you seem to have made great choices in the books you are reading.

You should be getting to know some of the characters pretty well, by now, so that is where we will go this week.  The assignment below asks you to choose one of the characters from your book, and compare her or him to a character in ANOTHER text (book, TV show, video game, movie...).

English 111 Per 4: Research Essays - to May 1st

Hey there!  This is just a reminder that if you are choosing to work through the essay to prepare for next year and beyond, we are taking these two weeks to work through one of two pathways: 1) start with a great intro, and organize from there, OR, 2) Organize the best way to prove your thesis, draft it together, then go back and write the intro.  The thesis statement should be done, and last week we looked at how to write a great introduction. 
If you are someone who likes to start with the intro, that should be done by now (feel free to send it in!).  If you are someone who likes to write the essay first before going back to write the introduction, you should be figuring out how to organize the paragraphs - we also looked at great ideas for transitions between and within paragraphs. 
Those working towards the credit should be working on this, and contributing to the book study virtual discussion in the "Teams" channel called "English 11 Book Study."  If you are not able to access Teams, please let me know - jean.macdonald2@nbed.nb.ca

English 113 Period 2: Week of April 27th

Hey there!  This is just a reminder that you are to be working on one of two paths towards completion of your essay.  The thesis statement should be done, and last week we looked at how to write a great introduction.  If you are someone who likes to start with the intro, that should be done by now (feel free to send it in!).  If you are someone who likes to write the essay first before going back to write the introduction, you should be figuring out how to organize the paragraphs - we also looked at great ideas for transitions between and within paragraphs.  Those were posted last week, too.  Let me know how things are going!

Economics 120 - Credit assignment for Outcome 3.3 - Labour Unions

Hi all - I am getting some great assignments in for credit - you are adapting to this learning very well!  Below,  I have posted an assignment for the next outcome (3.3), along with a PowerPoint to hopefully give you all the background information you need on the nature of work, and why labour unions needed to develop.  Please let me know if you can't access the PowerPoint, and I can convert it into something else.  The assignment consists of reading through the PowerPoint for some background, then writing a summary of what you learned there.  Then, you have a choice on how to apply your learning.

Language Arts 9 Period 3: April 27th - May 1st

Hi everyone!  I have been getting some excellent analyses about the author's choice of point-of-view.  Great work!  This week, we will consider some different types of conflict.  In the file attached below, I have outlined the five main types of conflict in a narrative, and would like you to consider the type(s) you are finding in the book you are reading.  

I will do the sample questions for each of the three books that I am reading; I should be able to get those done for you by Monday afternoon.   Here is the weekly assignment, though, if you want to get thinking about it:

Economics 120: Credit Assignment - Market Structures

Economics 120 - Credit assignment for Outcome 3.1

Economics 120: Week of April 20th

Happy Monday!  This week, we will try to figure out the basics of the Stock Market, so we can move on to Financial Crises next week.  

Your assignment will be to explain the basics of the Stock Market to a young friend.  There are two videos and a PDF explanation sheet that all break things down quite well.  Watch or read the explanations, then work on re-hashing the most important points in order to explain it clearly.  When you turn in the assignment, it could be in paragraph form, or in point form.

English 111 Per 4: Research Essays - to May 1st

Where you go next, depends on your writing process.  Some of you like to start by writing the introduction.  While this may seem like a logical starting point, some people like to write the essay first, and then go back to write the intro.  Either way is fine; it just depends on your writing style.
