Media Studies: Radio. On Wednesday students will present their advertisements. Radio has changed so much over the years. A radio ad can be very effective in reaching the masses. However we need to understand the history of radio before we look at how it is used. Students will research and submit a paper on the History of Radio. Make sure that your paper addresses the following points: How was radio invented? How was it first used? What kind of programming was offered? Make sure you include important changes in radio (for example, music stations, talk shows) Can you find any science (psychological) about the power of sound. The birth of satellite radio. Listen to a radio and compare it to a TV ad. Due on Friday May 30th, 2014 Reading tutor: This week the students will be using the class as a study period. At this time of year students find it hard to complete all the course work before exams. The international students will have the extra time that they need and Canadian students will be there to help them. Theatre Arts: Students will present their musicals. Law 120: Today we will look at case law. Research the following. What is considered case law? When does a case become case law? Choose one canadian case.- summarize it. How does this case affect other cases? Choose one side of the case and write an argument as a law. back it up with evidence and research.

Media studies: Advertsing campagin: Reading tutor: Libby and rashad week- Music Theatre Arts: what will the next JMH show be? students will research and then try to convince their teacher and peers os to what the next JMH Spring show is. This will help with understanding musicals and persuasive speech. Research the following: Musical (Make sure it is licensed) Present the plot, Characters, set and costume ideas Talk bout the budget Casting- do we have the cast - what qualities are you looking for? Marketing- How will we sell it- ideas to market to an audience. Obstacles when it comes to the James M. Hill theatre and remedies for these problems. Why will it be successful. Law: Case #1- conclusion.

Media Studies: Students will begin their advertisement projects. The students are required to have the following. A marketing plan and an advertisement. There are three parts to this project.  The details follow: Marketing campaigns are launched in order to push the product to consumers. Please reveal the following in your marketing plan: This will be a one page write up on your product. Due Monday May 12th, 2014. ·         Product- what does the product do ·         Who is the target audience ·         What claims will be used in the campaign (use at least 3) ·         VALS- values and lifestyles that the campaign will focus on Secondly students will develop their storyboard for their advertisement. Remember I will be looking for  key elements in the storyboard Due Wednesday May 14th, 2014: ·         Product placement- your product clearly seen ·         Claims- at least 3 ·         Camera angles and cuts- (Use at least 5-7) ·         Sound effects that help with the ad. ·         Music- make sure it is copyright free- there are many royalty free websites that you can get music from. Finally the video component of the project: Students will shoot and edit their advertisement- remember that the ads must reflect your storyboards. Videos are due Thursday May 22nd. 2014. Reading tutor: Remember that this week is international week. We are cooking in the culinary lab tomorrow. Bring all your ingredients. Prep day tomorrow and cooking and eat on Friday. Theatre Arts: Students are working on Shrek the musical. Law 120: prep day for court. Students will begin their Law Court case today. Lawyers are handed their case files and the rest of the class is working on their "there ought to be a law against..." paper. This is a two-page paper with supporting arguments and resources.

Media Studies 120: Students need to finish their assignment from yesterday. The worksheet is available on yesterday's post. Please complete and pass in to the teacher. If finished students can begin to brainstorm ideas on deveoping a product for their advertising campaign.Reading tutor: Kennedy and Mallory are playing word games with students. Powerpoint is attached.Theatre Arts: Students are filming their physical action videos. Media Studies: Today the teacher will discuss with students Values and Lifestyles. Essentially, every person falls into one of the categories established by VALS. People tend to consume goods and services not because of age, education or income, but rather motivations. The term “psychographics” refers to the study of the values, attitudes, desires and needs of consumers. Media Studies: Advertising: Does it really work? Are there colors, images that really shape our thinking? What strategies do advertisers use to establish their product? Write a 3 page paper on the advertising. last day is Friday ising. Include the following: A brief history of advertising Concepts of advertising- what works and what doesn't. Can advertisers really convince consumers. Physical action are the movements that we use to tell the story. Often times this is supported with a script.
