Media Studies 120: media studies students will discuss pop culture, trends and fads. The students will explore ideas that show the value of pop culture.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQHPYelqr0E- weezer video- identify the pop culture pieces. Pop culture shapes our identity. As consumers we produce pop cilture by "buying" into them. Reading tutor: Students will discuss "what is your dream job." discuss and write a praragraph and share it with the class. The international students are leaving to go to a dance workshop. The canadian student will us this as a planning time for tyhe next couple of weeks. In this time we will "partner up" with international students as well as develop lessons to increase their learning. We will be building a word wall in the classroom as well as discuss key phrases used in our culture. Theatre Arts: Finishing Broadway projects Law 120: Quiz #1- Then students will work on the Charter of Rights and freedoms paper. Due on Friday.

Media Studies 120: Discuss with students about "Does media really affect that way in which we see ourselves?" Then students will complete the assignment on constructing reality. Reading tutor: Students will play a name game: Each international student gets some names of Canadian students. They match the names with the students. Topic for conversation today " tell me about your family and life in China" - write a paragraph and work on their name tags. Brazillian students will read today with Mr.Gopee. After they will write a paragraph of their reading. Theatre Arts: Students will finish their presentations on a broadway musical. The teacher will then talk to students about the types of stages. Law 120: Students will work on their Charter of Rights and Freedoms paper.

Media Studies: Students will present their pop culture art. As they do this they will explain how their choices illustrate the thoughts and interests of their generation. The teacher will then give a definition for pop culture and then discuss the way in which information is related as well as the principles of media. Here are the notes for today. Media Studies examines the essence and effects of media upon individuals and society. The sender begins or starts the communication. The sender decides on the information or content that will be sent. The medium is the manner in which the sender transmits the information. The receiver receives the information. The receiver receives the information and then gives feedback to the sender. These four principles are: The media construct reality. The media have their own forms, codes and conventions. The media present ideologies and value messages. The media are businesses that have commercial interests.  Reading tutor: Taging everything in the room. Finding the right book. Theatre Arts: project are due Monday. Law 120: Constitution of Canada.

Media Studies: Students are working on their pop culture artwork. This piece of art should explain pop culture today. reading Tutor: Discussion topic "tell us about your family. What does you mom and dad do? Names, brother sisters, pets. write a small paragraph about your family. Then  we will introduce each other. let us decorate our name tags. Use the front as a name picture and motto. The back draw things you like to do. Theatre Arts: Quiz today. Work on musical presentations. Be able to answer the cost of the musical. How is it promoted. target audience/ Director and other key personnel. Law: Historical roots of law continued.

Media Studies: Students have been learning about Pop culture. Over the next few days students will create a piece of pop culture art. Students may work in groups (2-4) and develop an idea for pop culture art. Prepare your proposal for your art piece for teacher tomorrow. Develop your pop culture piece by answering the following questions as part of your write up that is due tomorrow.What is your definition of pop culture?Develop a list of 10 (school appropriate) things that reflects your generation (pop culture)Develop a list of items you need and who is bringing what.- assign who brings these items for next class day.Decide what message you want your popart to say or mean and why you want that message. (look for something that talks about your generation and its purpose. (Be serious about this)Art can include collages, paintings- (draft ideas)Reading Tutor: Welcome to new students. Each group is given a large piece of paper and Canadian students will talk with their Brazilian counterparts and draw and develop a chart to tell us about their Brazillian friend. Also students will begin to tag all items in the room with words so that students will know what they are. Ice breakers can be played as well. Tomorrow we will look at reading levels.Theatre Arts: Quiz is moved to tomorrow. Today students will spend the day researching for a musical theatre presentation. Choose a musical (first come, first serve) (Pairs) Summarize the musical/ awards/ failures/ Cast/ wow factors (unique effects or directing decisions for the show) - 10-15 slide powerpoint. (Include a song example and pictures. Talk about important elements such as: costume/ casting/ set design/ music/ lighting and effects/ props. You will present project on Thursday of this week.Law 120: Discussion of a court case. Research a current case, Justin Beiber, Amanda Knox, Woody Allen ect. A one page write up due tomorrow to show the following:Summary of the case (Usually 1/2 page)What is the media saying about it- both sidesWhat do you think should happen and why? (Due tomorrow)
