Hi there!  In 121 English, you completed your Quick 5 writing, then got to work on your grouped novel study.  Remember that the presentations will begin next Wednesday, and that your final reflection is due tomorrow.  In English 9, you completed the leg work for your class debate, then debated!  Good work using facts, not feelings, to get your point across.  Don't forget a book of your choosing for tomorrow.

Today in 121 English, we discussed last night's Article of the week, then resumed our reading of The Diary of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain (*sigh*).  Following that, we detailed how our last week and a half will look, breaking into groups to examine four major categories while reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.  They look like this: Bildungsroman - Megan, Justin, Nadine, Logan, Alex Socratic Irony - Sarah L., Erica, Mia, Samantha Superstition - Alyssa, Jessica, Sam C., Coralie "Black on the Inside" - Colton, Alanna, Allison, Sarah H., Miranda Hopefully, you determined how much you will read for tomorrow. In English 9, we enjoyed some SSR, then began the process of informing ourselves about the notion of addictiveness in video gaming...which will eventually lead us to a whole-class debate.  Great job!

Helllooo!  In our 121 English class today, you received your Article of the Week (Right vs Left-Brained thinkers), and we did a brief intro to Mark Twain with The Diary of Adam and Eve, which we'll finish tomorrow.  In English 9, you presented your teen-targeted ads, then we analyzed some info about the alcohol industry and how it's trying to send you messages (BOO!).  Don't forget your book for SSR tomorrow.

Hi, folks!  This morning in English 121, we discussed your Articles of the Week, reviewed the practice question you completed for your test later this week, then continued our viewing of the movie adaptation for our novel. No homework for tomorrow.  English 9 students, we went through some advertising strategies used to manipulate us, reviewed the Canadian laws for advertising to children, examined a magazine ad or two, and you were assigned homework...watching TV and tracking the commercials.  We'll look at your findings tomorrow.

Hey!  In English 121, you handed in your research essay, and we continued viewing the film adaptation of Of Mice and Men.  We'll finish tomorrow, then begin your test.  Don't forget tonight's Article of the Week, too.  In English 9, we continued looking at some stats that relate to the media and how they are trying to manipulate us in a variety of ways.  Great job!

Hey there!  In English 121, we created the rubric for your essay, had a GREAT say about your Article of the Week, then got to working on your essay a little.  NEW DATES:  Draft due for Thursday, when we will do some peer editing, and final copy due on Tuesday (be sure to include all parts of the process).  Our English 9 class took a look at the first scored question of your test, then got to work on completing the rest.  You'll have half of the class tomorrow to do so.  Thanks for your hard work!

Good day, sirs.  In 121 English, you received your Article of the Week and a short essay assignment dealing with one of the larger themes of the novel.  The first draft is due on Wednesday, as it will be peer edited on that day.  In our English 9 class, we woked on identifying your views regarding the most important scene from The Merchant of Venice, we reviewed some of your assignments so that you gained an even clearer understanding of the rubrics used (it's all practice for the game, right?), then you completed the first question of your test.  We'll continue with that tomorrow.
Hey! In English 121, you handed in your reflections...then we finished the novel together.  Thank you so much for reading it to me, so I could deal with my issues.  We then just, well, had a great say about Steinbeck and what he managed to do in this short novella.  On Monday, we'll continue that discussion, and add on a few layers in order to get ready for your test.  In English 9, you handed in your comparison/contrast reflections (thanks!) then completed and organized the 20-page scene summary for the play.  We'll work on determining your evaluation of the most important ones on Monday.  See you then!

Hey there!  What a great day.  In 121 English, we had a terrific discussion about your Articles of the Week, then we did a read-aloud of chapter five in Of Mice and Men.  Yeeps!  Tomorrow is a bit of a wash because of the drama performance, but we'll finish reading to the end of the novel...pardon me, I'll listen to you folks read to the end of the novel...on Friday.  No homework tonight, but feel free to do up your reflection, eh?  As for English 9, you were wonderful, too!  We worked for a while on finishing up your comparison/contrast pieces of Antonio and Shylock, then we began an art project to sequence and determine the most important sections (in our opinion, anyway) of the play.  Your comparison/contrasts ARE DUE ON FRIDAY, and your test is postponed until next week.  Enjoy the play tomorrow.

Hiya!  In English 121, we took some time to continue our discussion about chapters three and four in Of Mice and Men, then created a master list of the Bloom's questions you created.  Fantastic.  I'll have copies for you tomorrow.  Also, your Article of the Week is due tomorrow.  In English 9, you handed in your "Justice" reflection, then we began the first steps of a comparison/contrast piece between Antonio and Shylock, completing a Venn diagram individually, and sharing with your peers.  We'll continue that in class tomorrow.  Don't forget, your test will now be on FRIDAY...you lucky dogs. Hi there!  Today in 121 English, we took some time to discuss the guiding questions assigned for chapters one through three.  Since I forgot to e-mail the Article of the Week to myself, I guess that'll shake down tomorrow.  Rest tonight, and enjoy a homework-free evening.  In English 9, we revisited the pre-reading topics we examined before beginning The Merchant of Venice, analyzed potential heroes and victims in the play, then you were assigned another reflection dealing with JUSTICE.  It's due tomorrow.

Hiya!  This morning, in our VERY small English 121 class, we discussed your ideas on the guiding questions for chapter one in Of Mice and Men..and we DID NOT eat donuts.  Sigh.  For Monday, please complete to the end of chapter four.  In English 9, we witnessed the undoing of Shylock, the former Jew.  Enjoy your long weekend!

Hey!  Today in English 121, we had a fast and furious intro to John Steinbeck, the Great Depression, and Realism and Naturalism.  Your Article of the Week is due tomorrow, and your guiding questions for the novel (for all of you dramatists) is due when you ger back.  In English 9, we wrapped up the caskets plot...but it's gonna' get STEAMY with the pound of flesh story!

Hey!  The Great Balloon Debate in 121 English was fantastic!  We're down to Claudius and Gerttrude, believe it or not.  Remember to complete your soliloquy for tomorrow.  In English 9, we read a couple of scenes from Act 2, and added to our character web, our "Suitor Chart" and our plot stars.  Great job!  Tomorrow, we'll see how two of the suitors fare with their choices.  Remember to complete the dramatic irony reflection for tomorrow, as you'll be handing it in.

Hey there!  In 121 English, you were assigned your Article of the Week (due tomorrow), a soliloquy (due Thursday), and you were given a little time to work on whatever needed to be done.  Tomorrow, we'll participate in the Great Ballon Debate!  In English 9, we completed Act 1, scene 3, began using a star organizer to track the various plot lines that occur in the play, added to your character webs, watched the scene with Antonio, Bassanio and Shylock, and worked on your scene 3 questions, which are due for tomorrow.  Also tomorrow, we will complete a reflection dealing with Shakespeare's use of DRAMATIC IRONY, then we'll meet the Prince of Morocco...
