Hey!  Today, we reviewed what we covered yesterday in poetry, added speaker and narrative poetry, then took a look at how poets and writers use a combination of long and short lines to reinforce certain elements. We also came up with a list of important things your parents should know about the teen brain.   No homework for tonight...but you might want to review your notes.

Hey, folks!  Today, we completed your Reflections, then began our POETRY unit!  YES!!!!  We covered figurative and literal language, and metaphor and extended metaphor.  You're welcome, little ding-a-lings!  For tomorrow, please complete the analysis of your Article of the Week, which deals with the teenage brain.

Good day!  In class today, we completed a little dialogue Warm-Up, then moved into small groups for some collaboration about our Article of the Week.  This was essential in re-evaluating our initial opinions regarding whether or not Jordan Brown should be tried as an adult for the crimes with which he has been charged.  From there, you worked toward completing a personal reflection of that topic. Well done!  No homework for the long weekend...just get fat on turkey and enjoy yourselves.

Hello!  Today, we did a little SSR, then reviewed part of our Article of the Week together, as some of you had difficulty with the "fact vs opinion" concept.  Beyond that, we looked at WHY writers include opinions (although sometimes wrapped in a blanket of facts), and the intended effect on the audience.  No homework for tomorrow, but be ready to assert your very informed EVALUATION on whether or not Jordan Brown should be tried as an adult.

Hi, guys!  Sorry I missed you today.  I'm sure my supply teacher will have wonderful things to say about you...or else.  For tomorrow, please complete your analysis and notation of the Article of the Week.  Your focus will be to distinguish the FACTS from the OPINIONS in the article, so try to determine the best way to do that before, during, and after you read.  Also, you must complete your Math textbook activity regarding text features (but you had plenty of class time today to get it done).  See you tomorrow!

Happy October!  In class today, we read a little, then tackled the idea of what TEXT FEATURES are, and how we can use them to better our understanding of pretty much anything we read.  Good work!  We'll continue that activity on Monday in class (using your Math text again), so you don't have homework this weekend.  See you Monday!

Hi there!  Today, we completed a Warm-Up, then switched our The China Doll questions with a classmate.  After that, we came up with a class master list of terrific questions for this short story, divided into the six levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.  Great work!  No homework for tomorrow.

Great work today with your Warm-Up and our analysis of the whole "Frankenfish" issue.  Did you change your mind?  For tomorrow, please complete the ten questions you're creating for a classmate using Bloom's Taxonomy for Thinking, and Karen Valanne's short story The China Doll.  Don't rush!

Good day!  In class today we continued our analysis of five key educational issues for our four political parties.  Tomorrow, we will hold our class forum on education, and see how well each group has prepared their candidate.  FOR HOMEWORK TOMORROW, please read, analyze and notate the "Frankenfish" Article of the Week.  Instead of "Food for Thought" questions, you are being asked to tap into the Analysis level of Bloom's Taxonomy for Thinking, and create a T-chart of the pros and cons.  The article is attached to this posting.  Have a great night!

Happy Friday!  Today, we began our in-class election project, using Bloom's Taxonomy for Thinking to help us through.  We'll continue that activity on Monday, have our party leaders address the issues in education that we feel are essential, then we'll vote!

Hello!  Today, we kept on trucking with Bloom's Taxonomy for Thinking.  Great work!  Then, we moved into the Application level of Bloom's by using Karen Valanne's The China Doll to create some terrific questions for your peers.  No homework for tonight...and be ready to enter the election process tomorrow!

Hey, folks!  What a day!  You handed in what you ASSURED me were a huge stack of "A" performances in your friendly letters.  I can't wait to read 'em!  After that, we began breaking down the idea of "metacognition", or "thinking about thinking".  To do this, we're going to tackle Bloom's Taxonomy for Thinking, which will help us move away from the lower two levels (Understanding and Comprehension) and into the upper levels of Application, Analysis, Evaluating, and Synthesis.  Remember the example of creating a bird house in wood shop class if you need a little help.  Great work today, and no homework for tomorrow...unless you didn't hand in your letter packet today.  Oh, don't forget to wear your green and gold!

Hey there!  In class today, we enjoyed a little SSR, followed by a short summary of what you read about.  After that, we took at a look at what we learned from our Article of the Week...superbugs?  For tomorrow, please have the best copy possible of your letter ready (an A performance, remember) to pass in, including all of the process steps and the rubric we designed together.  Have a great night!

Hello to you on this beautifully sunny day!  In class today, we looked at an editorial cartoonfor our warmup, then helped our peers to an A performance with some peer editing (one more step in the process, right?).  The next draft (likely the final draft) of that letter is due on Wednesday, so be sure to keep all of the steps of your process, as they'll be included with the final product.  For homework tomorrow, please complete your Article of the Week review.  Remember, use TONS of notation as evidence of your thinking and trying to apply your strategies.
