Economics 120, English 113, Language Arts 9, English 111
Hey there!  This is just a reminder that if you are choosing to work through the essay to prepare for next year and beyond, we are taking these two weeks to work through one of two pathways: 1) start with a great intro, and organize from there, OR, 2) Organize the best way to prove your thesis, draft it together, then go back and write the intro.  The thesis statement should be done, and last week we looked at how to write a great introduction.
If you are someone who likes to start with the intro, that should be done by now (feel free to send it in!).  If you are someone who likes to write the essay first before going back to write the introduction, you should be figuring out how to organize the paragraphs - we also looked at great ideas for transitions between and within paragraphs.
Those working towards the credit should be working on this, and contributing to the book study virtual discussion in the "Teams" channel called "English 11 Book Study."  If you are not able to access Teams, please let me know - jean.macdonald2@nbed.nb.ca

Hey there!  This is just a reminder that you are to be working on one of two paths towards completion of your essay. Those were posted last week, too.  Let me know how things are going!

Hi all - I am getting some great assignments in for credit - you are adapting to this learning very well!  Below,  I have posted an assignment for the next outcome (3.3), along with a PowerPoint to hopefully give you all the background information you need on the nature of work, and why labour unions needed to develop.  Please let me know if you can't access the PowerPoint, and I can convert it into something else.  The assignment consists of reading through the PowerPoint for some background, then writing a summary of what you learned there.  Then, you have a choice on how to apply your learning.

This week, we will take a look at what a financial crisis is.  The assignment posted below gives a definition for "financial crisis," then has you look up some different financial crises through history, choosing one, then answering a few questions.

Hi everyone!  I have been getting some excellent analyses about the author's choice of point-of-view.  Great work!  This week, we will consider some different types of conflict.  In the file attached below, I have outlined the five main types of conflict in a narrative, and would like you to consider the type(s) you are finding in the book you are reading.

I will do the sample questions for each of the three books that I am reading; I should be able to get those done for you by Monday afternoon.   Here is the weekly assignment, though, if you want to get thinking about it:

For those pursuing the credit - here is the next assignment, for whenever you are ready.  This introduces some new terms - models for the different market structures that are in our economy:  Perfect Competition, Monopolistic Competition, Oligopoly, and Monopoly.  They may sound complicated, but they will make sense soon!

Use these links to come up with a few main characteristics for each one:

The assignments is posted below:

For Credit:  Thanks for challenging yourselves to do a bit of extra work for the Economics 120 credit.  For this first one, we will finish up the concepts that we need to for Outcome 3.1.  You will need a bit of knowledge about stock markets first, so please complete the weekly assignment on stock markets before diving in to this one.

Happy Monday!  This week, we will try to figure out the basics of the Stock Market, so we can move on to Financial Crises next week.

Your assignment will be to explain the basics of the Stock Market to a young friend.  There are two videos and a PDF explanation sheet that all break things down quite well.  Watch or read the explanations, then work on re-hashing the most important points in order to explain it clearly.  When you turn in the assignment, it could be in paragraph form, or in point form.

You can email your answer to jean.macdonald2@nbed.nb.ca, or "turn In" on the Teams site.

Those of you who are interested in a credit for this course, please complete this exercise early this week, and I will post a follow-up assignment in the "Economics 120 Credit" Channel, as well as here, mid-week.  If you have not yet let me know that you are interested in the credit option, please let me know as soon as you decide.

Happy Monday!  I have received some great thesis statements, so it seems that you have done some great research, or have chosen something you know very well to write your essay about.

Where you go next, depends on your writing process.  Some of you like to start by writing the introduction.  While this may seem like a logical starting point, some people like to write the essay first, and then go back to write the intro.  Either way is fine; it just depends on your writing style.

Pathway 1) If you are someone who would liike to start with the introduction, have a read through these guidelines.  The intro is the first impression the reader gets, so it is worth taking some time to thin about what you will write:

https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/introductions/

Pathway 2) This involves organizing your information, so that it proves your thesis in the smoothest way possible.  Should your first few paragraphs give the reader some background so they understand the issue?  Should you shock the reader right off the bat?  What information should you END with, to give the most "oomph".  Take some time to plan out your paragraphs so they will be most effective.  Also, this is a great time to start thinking about the transitions you could use as you connect everything together:

Let's take a couple of weeks to plan things out, whichever pathway works for you, and write a draft including the intro.  Give lots of thought to how you organize.   Of course, if you have things completed now, you can turn them in on Teams, or email me at jean.macdonald2@nbed.nb.ca     Email me, or comment on Teams if I can help with anything.
