Psychology 120: Students are going to use this period to study for the test tomorrow. The list of words are on the teacher’s page with their definitions. The task today is simple, the students have been looking at memory and how they learn. They are to develop a study guide based on the following:

·         Their multiple intelligence- so if they scored high in 1-2 areas there should be evidence of a plan to study in that way. For example if they are visual special they could draw a chart, or diagram or picture that would help them with recalling the terms.

·         Secondly their study plan should include strategies for long term memory. For example one strategy would be to chunk up information into small bites, or a memory palace, or making a game out of the material.

·         Finally their plan should include evidence that the materials makes sense. This is the key for long term memory storage. So tell them to share a story, example or put it into their own words to show knowledge of the material.

·         This plan is due tomorrow when they write their test.

History 112: Students are working on appeasement worksheet and prep for Friday WW2 test.

Psychology: Sleep- Scientist have theorized that sleep depravation raises the levels of anxiety and can cause depression in people. Today we will do some research on the study. Harvard University (https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/sleep-and-mental-health) has been conducting research that shows that interrupted sleep can disrupt the brain's computing power. https://www.cnn.com/2016/11/09/health/smartphones-harm-sleep/index.html- CNN publish an article that suggests that one of our problems sleeping could be our tech.

https://www.bentley.edu/prepared/how-technology-causing-anxiety- Berkley goes a step further and are doing studies on how our tech may be causing this rise in Anxiety. CBC, Time Magazine and BBC all report that life expectancy is dropping.

We need to sleep.

Psychology- read article and answer posted questions. http://www.macleans.ca/society/life/inside-your-teenagers-scary-brain/

History: Test

Period 4: reading tutor: Two things here. Please have students finish presenting their cultures to the class. I encourage asking questions in order to promote the conversations. When these presentations are finished the students can work on their memory book writing. They have been writing a scrapbook about themselves. They can continue on to the next chapter.

Period 5: Study Block- Drama students will come to this classroom. Mrs. Curtis will take the ones that she needs and the rest work on their schoolwork.

Period 6: Theatre Arts: Students were given a script to work on. This is a script that needs to be completed and updated. Please ask break up into two groups for the next couple of days.

1.      Music

2.      Script writing

These groups should choose a group leader who can take the lead to assign and make decisions about the music and script. It should a student that can lead and that has a vision for the material. The leader will then lead a discussion group to answer the needs of the script. For example- script writers may need to decide on plot, themes and outline the beginning middle and end of our story. The music team may want to start lyrics or develop tunes (then can use mixcraft to help them)- The students should work at this on Thursday and Friday and then have enough information to present to Mr. Gopee after the break. The group leader needs to assign a participation mark out of 5 for each day.
