Helloooooo!  Today, you handed in your intro paragraphs assignment.  Thanks!   We also read a little further into The Yellow Wallpaper.  Yikes!  No homework for tomorrow, EXCEPT for period two - your Article of the Week is due.

Hey!  In class today, we took at a look at the qualities (and even the appearance!) of people we think are "reliable".  We then read a poem, Richard Cory, by Edwin Arlington Robinson, and tied that in with a literary definition of unreliable narrator.  From there, we began reading a short stoy by Charlotte Perkins Gilman called The Yellow Wallpaper.  We'll also be making character notes throughout our reading, to enhance our understanding of unreliable narrator and to prepare us for the character analysis you will be completing at the end of our reading. PERIOD 1:  You have your Article of the Week due tomorrow. PERIODS 1, 2, 3, 6:  You have your two INCREDIBLE introductory paragraphs due tomorrow, including your planning, edited drafts, and completed (by two people) rubrics.  They were assigned last Thursday, AND you had a little class time, too, so don't complain... Thanks!

Hiya!  Today, we reviewed the five-paragraph essay that we analyzed yesterday, then we examined SEVEN different types of potential introductions that you can use!  Hello, Assessment!  Remember, you'll be one of 9000 essays floating under their noses, so you need to grab their attention with a terrific hook and thesis.  In addition, you were assigned the task of writing TWO TERRIFIC intros based on your choice of five topics (that's the APPLICATION level of Bloom's!).  Your paragraphs (plus all of the process that went into writing them AND the rubrics) are due on Tuesday, November 30.

Hi there!  Today, we quickly reviewed the pie chart of responsibility from yesterday, added a couple of new terms, then began reading The Monkey's Paw, focusing on setting.  Only period two has homework - your paragraph assignment.

Holy fog!  What a crazy looking day outdoors!  However, we remained cozy...and a little smarter... tucked into room 565.  We completed another vocab-enhancing Warm-Up, then had a look at the possible MacLeans assignment options you can start choosing next week for your Article of the Week.  After that, you completed a pie chart of responsibility in order to determine the factors in your life that YOU believe are most important in making you the great person you will some day become.  It's a great lead-in to our reading of The Monkey's Paw, which we'll begin tomorrow.  No homework tonight!

Happy Tuesday!  Today, we completed another "words in context" warm-up using "hyper" as the prefix.  Then, we completed an in-class assignment using MacLean's magazine, which will be an option for you in your Articles of the Week from now on. Good work!  Remember that your paragraph assignment is due tomorrow, including a completed self-evaluation checklist.

Hi there!  Today, we completed a warm-up activity to improve our "figuring out words in context" area of reading.  We then kept plugging away with the two- and three-circled Venn diagrams as graphic organizers.  From there, you were given a paragraph assignment that is due on WEDNESDAY, asking for your evaluation on who is a morally "better" person.  I've attached the assignment to this post.

Good day!  Today, we studied a couple of short stories, then began a third.  Your job for Friday is to read Hobbyist and answer the accompanying questions.  Take your time!

Hello!  Today, we shared a little excerpt from a novel I'm reading, looking at author choices and voice (makes you re-think confession, eh?), then had a say about the anticipation guide for Sentry.  From there, you read, then re-read, Sentry, so yuo need to complete your five questions for homework.  Thanks!

Hi!  In class today, you were assigned an Article of the Week for tomorrow.  REMEMBER to indicate EVERYTHING you agree and disagree with as you read, as it will help you with the Food for Thought section.  We also began our short story work with a few definitions, and the beginnings of a discussion on some continuum items.  SSR tomorrow, then moving right along with our first short story!
