Welcome To Our Page

Welcome back!  In English 121, we completed the last of our presentations on medeival Denmark, then got to work on an intro activity (using only the first 12 lines of Hamlet) to exercise our powers of inferencing.  You also received your Article of the Week, which is due tomorrow. In English 9, Mr. Hardy handed out the required information to complete your Book Talk (including the assignment itself, the peer rubric and the end of grade nine provincial curricular outcomes), and provided you with some time to work in your groups.  Our first presentations will begin on Wednesday.  Be creative!

Hello there!  In English 121, we continued plugging away with some fantastic presentations to set the tone for Hamlet.  We'll continue after March break.  As for English 9, you handed in your process and final for your character analysis, then we completed the first round of the OCA. Thanks for your hard work, folks, and enjoy your break!

Today in English 121, we had a great discussion about last night's Article of the Week (I love starting the day with you people!), then set to work on your projects/presentations, due tomorrow. Thanks for helping me create the rubric we'll use.  In English 9, you helped each other with some peer editing, then started working on the final copies of your character analysis, which is due this Friday.  Remember that progress reports will be sent home tomorrow, too.

Happy March, folks!  In English 121, you handed in your research essays (thank you!), we had a look at some solid Reflections from your classmates, you were assigned your Article of the Week (due tomorrow), and you had a little time to work on your Hamlet frontloading projects, as you will begin your presentations on Thursday.  As for you English 9'ers, you enjoyed a little SSR, then had some time to work on the draft of your character analysis.  The draft is due tomorrow, and we'll do a little peer editing with them.  The final copy will be due on Friday.

Hey there!  English 121, please have the final copies of your essays completed for Monday.  Remember to include ALL of the parts of your process (notes, planning, edited draft, peer checklist, final draft and completed rubric...with your rubric on the top).  Tomorrow, we'll get to work on immersing ourselves in medeival Denmark!  English 9, we began the first stage of our character analysis, first organizing our thoughts about five specific character attributes.  If you didn't manage to complete that page, please do so for tomorrow, as we'll use those notes to begin our outline tomorrow.

Hiya!  In ENGLISH 121, you handed in your reflections (thank you!), we engaged our brains in a little warm-up with the help of some awesome long and short lines thrown together by Tracy Bonham, then we completed and shared the tremendous Bloom's Taxonomy questions for The China Doll.  Again, fabulous.  No homework for the weekend, but we'll begin Hiroshima  next week.  In our ENGLISH 9 class, we enjoyed some SSR with our new novels, then broke into groups in order to have a little discussion.  FOR HOMEWORK, please complete the top box of page 4 and all of page 5 in your novel packet.  Thank you!

Hey, folks!  Today... in ENGLISH 121 we discussed our Article of the Week from last night, then used our powers of inference with Florence and the Machine's "A Kiss With A Fist."  Great job!  From there, we began our understanding of Bloom's Taxonomy for thinking.  We'll continue with that tomorrow.  Oh, don't forget your Reflection, due on Friday! in ENGLISH 9, we added a few new options to our novel study unit, reviewed the FIVE BIG QUESTIONS necessary to ask yourself in order to be a great critic of literature, and worked on completing page one of your novel packets (which is due for homework).  Good work!

Welcome to semester II!  Here's the scoop on today: ENGLISH 121 (can you hear the chorus of angels all singing in unison?) - We reviewed the course outline, what is expected of a reflection (due each Friday), and modeled a little of a sample Article of the Week.  Yours is due tomorrow.  Remember, I am looking for evidence of your thinking as you read.  ENGLISH 9 - Today, we reviewed the course outline and had a say about why we should (but maybe don't) read novels.  We also had a short blurb about your options.  Tomorrow, you'll make your pick, and we'll do a little "frontloading" before we tackle any actual reading.

Hey there!  Today, you completed (sort of!) your Writing I practice run.  FOR HOMEWORK, your assignment is to analyze and provide proof for the exemplar "Have you ever felt like..." to ensure that the writer has hit all (or most of) the bullets.  This is also how you will be evaluating a peer's Writing I tomorrow, so be sure you are well-versed in how to find the proof needed.

Hey there!  Great job with your Articles of the Week last night.  For those of you who completed them during Homework Lunch, thanks to you, too.  After our discussion about the article in class today, we looked at the layout for Writing I that will take place next Thursday afternoon, and began the first stages of the writing process (brainstorming and outlining) for a dry run.  No homework for tonight, as we will continue working on your writing assignment tomorrow in class. Have a great night!
