Media Studies: Final day to work on school spirit videos. They will be due on the first day back from March Break. Remember to follow the format that was laid out for you earlier this week. Reading Tutor.: Today we have speech presentations. Students have been working all week to get their speeches together. Theatre Arts: Final day for completing your props list. Teacher will look for outlines props that the students have signed up for. Law 120- Discussion of the Vince Li case. Media Studies: Remember that Videos should be finished by the end of the week. Reading tutor: Today we add onother step in our demonstrative speeches. Powerpoint or Prezi. This is simply a guide to help with the presentation. You should simply read it. Your write up will be in your own words to go along with your powerpoint. Tomorrow we will make our planning list of items to bring for our Friday speeches. Theatre Arts: props day- finishing up large props. Law 120: finish worksheet. Answer the following when completed for discussion: research the Vince Li case. Who is he and what happened? discuss the trial process? How do you feel about "mentally unstable" cases? Do you feel that his trial showed his mental ability? His present position, what is he doing now?

Media Studies: Today students will begin working on their "spirit video" As part of the 2014 CUTE Awards, we invite all schools in our district to submit a video entry that showcases the spirit of your school. Criteria · 2 minute maximum length · One entry per school · Feel free to include various members of your school community (ie: staff, students, support workers, etc.) · Can be an original creation, parody, lip dub, etc. · Please respect copyright. If you decide to do a lip dub or use copyrighted audio, be sure to seek permission before including it in your video. · Canadian Copyright Laws allow for the creation of original work and also parodies. The ASD-N Technology Team will review all submissions and determine a select group of finalists based on the number of entries received. The videos chosen as finalists will be screened throughout the evening of the CUTE Awards and a random draw will be made for a school prize package. Is your school up for the challenge? Do you have what it takes to compete against other ASD-N schools? Be creative and have fun! Reading tutor: Students are working on speeches today. Here are some ideas for speeches: How to : play instrument, defend an attacker, make a sandwich, play soccer, make a pinata, get ready for a date, juggle, aska girl to the prom, play a game, dance, write a poen, tie your shoes, braid hair, pick a good book. Anything really. The speeches will be 2-3 minutes in length. You should first do some research to offer some background into your presentation. That is the goal for today. So if you are teaching how to tie your shoelace. Research where the sholace came from and types of ties ecr. This will add to your speech. Write a paragraph or two on this in your own words. Your Canadian friends will help you. Theatre Arts: prop building 101- shrek the musical. Each student should have their shrek items ready for friday. Law: Finishing human rights Act.

Media Studies: Students are working on school spirit promo video today. By the end of class the students will provide teacher with a proposal for project. This will include the following: Outline of project: what is it about Who is responsible for what in the project. Ideals for visuals- what do you see in the video/ what words/graphics/pictures. Timeline of events- what are you doing when- equipment ect. Reading Tutor: This week students are working on Speeches. The goal behind this week is to develop a "how to speech" Our international students will present thei speeches on Friday and the canadian students will demonstrate.

Media Studies: Students finish their presentations on Pop cultures throughout the decades. Teacher will then discuss with students the CUTE award competition on "school Spirit"- making promo videos (purpose, setup and organization) Reading tutor: Last day of Olympics in class. This week students played our own version of the Olympic games. we also continued to do some reading in their assigned novel. The Canadian students shared a reading moment with the international students- they read to them their favourite elementary storybook and then asked them five open ended questions about the book.The international students responded in their journals. Today they were tested in their reading comprehension skills. Theatre Arts:Shrek the musical and prop work. law 120: We finished the Ashley Smith case today- students responded to the below questions in a one page write up due by Tuesday.  summary of Ashley Smith Case Who in your opinion takes the blame for her death. Why? Have there been more developments? What suggestions do you have that we could make to the criminal justice system hat would help avoid this from happening again?

Media Studies: Students will work on their pop culture through the decades. Remember that you should include media text of all sorts in your presentation. Quiz is tomorrow and projects are due on Thursday. Reading Tutor: This is our JMH Reading Tutor Olympic week. The three countries will compete in a series of events to determine the winner of these olympic games. Tomorrow each country will play their national anthem and show their olymoic pride. Then we will have three events. Students will then have a topic of conversation "How was your weekend?" Students are working on conversation and speaking skills this week.  Today they will spend the rest of the class reading and writing in their journals. Theatre Arts: Shrek the musical- what makes this such a hit? Law 120: Students will hand in their papers on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Media Studies: Quiz is pushed to Wednesday. Students will being their presentation on pop culture today. In groups the students will work together to present the pop culture of a decade. Here are the groups: Alex and Kevin- 2010 Kevin K., Cody, Andrew and Jessie- 2000 Lindsay and Megan- 1990 Derek, Darian,Leeam and Travis- 1980 Hailee, Colby and Claudia- 1970 Tyson and Jeremy- 1960 Bryan and Nick-1950 Stephanie. Beatriz and Tiago- 1920 Remember that pop culture include anything that became popular- music, movies, toys, fashion, slangs and phrases, commercials, dance movies, products, brands, styles, places, people and events. Anything that was popular at the time. Presentation (prezi, powerpoint.) due on Friday. Reading Tutor today- Students will go to Library (Learning Commons) to read and write. Theatre Arts: Final day of Presentations and then students will explore the Broadway musical of shrek. Students will write a 1-2 page report on Shrek the musical. Discuss the following things in your write up: Summary Unique Characters Themes (talk about at least 3) Challenges of a stage performance.

Media Studies 120: media studies students will discuss pop culture, trends and fads. The students will explore ideas that show the value of pop culture.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQHPYelqr0E- weezer video- identify the pop culture pieces. Pop culture shapes our identity. As consumers we produce pop cilture by "buying" into them. Reading tutor: Students will discuss "what is your dream job." discuss and write a praragraph and share it with the class. The international students are leaving to go to a dance workshop. The canadian student will us this as a planning time for tyhe next couple of weeks. In this time we will "partner up" with international students as well as develop lessons to increase their learning. We will be building a word wall in the classroom as well as discuss key phrases used in our culture. Theatre Arts: Finishing Broadway projects Law 120: Quiz #1- Then students will work on the Charter of Rights and freedoms paper. Due on Friday.

Media Studies 120: Discuss with students about "Does media really affect that way in which we see ourselves?" Then students will complete the assignment on constructing reality. Reading tutor: Students will play a name game: Each international student gets some names of Canadian students. They match the names with the students. Topic for conversation today " tell me about your family and life in China" - write a paragraph and work on their name tags. Brazillian students will read today with Mr.Gopee. After they will write a paragraph of their reading. Theatre Arts: Students will finish their presentations on a broadway musical. The teacher will then talk to students about the types of stages. Law 120: Students will work on their Charter of Rights and Freedoms paper.

Media Studies: Students will present their pop culture art. As they do this they will explain how their choices illustrate the thoughts and interests of their generation. The teacher will then give a definition for pop culture and then discuss the way in which information is related as well as the principles of media. Here are the notes for today. Media Studies examines the essence and effects of media upon individuals and society. The sender begins or starts the communication. The sender decides on the information or content that will be sent. The medium is the manner in which the sender transmits the information. The receiver receives the information. The receiver receives the information and then gives feedback to the sender. These four principles are: The media construct reality. The media have their own forms, codes and conventions. The media present ideologies and value messages. The media are businesses that have commercial interests.  Reading tutor: Taging everything in the room. Finding the right book. What does you mom and dad do? Names, brother sisters, pets. write a small paragraph about your family. Then  we will introduce each other. let us decorate our name tags. Use the front as a name picture and motto. The back draw things you like to do. Theatre Arts: Quiz today. Work on musical presentations. Be able to answer the cost of the musical. Media Studies: Students have been learning about Pop culture. Over the next few days students will create a piece of pop culture art. Students may work in groups (2-4) and develop an idea for pop culture art. Prepare your proposal for your art piece for teacher tomorrow. Develop your pop culture piece by answering the following questions as part of your write up that is due tomorrow.What is your definition of pop culture?Develop a list of 10 (school appropriate) things that reflects your generation (pop culture)Develop a list of items you need and who is bringing what.- assign who brings these items for next class day.Decide what message you want your popart to say or mean and why you want that message. (look for something that talks about your generation and its purpose. (Be serious about this)Art can include collages, paintings- (draft ideas)Reading Tutor: Welcome to new students. Each group is given a large piece of paper and Canadian students will talk with their Brazilian counterparts and draw and develop a chart to tell us about their Brazillian friend. Also students will begin to tag all items in the room with words so that students will know what they are. Ice breakers can be played as well. Tomorrow we will look at reading levels.Theatre Arts: Quiz is moved to tomorrow. Today students will spend the day researching for a musical theatre presentation. Choose a musical (first come, first serve) (Pairs) Summarize the musical/ awards/ failures/ Cast/ wow factors (unique effects or directing decisions for the show) - 10-15 slide powerpoint. (Include a song example and pictures. Talk about important elements such as: costume/ casting/ set design/ music/ lighting and effects/ props. You will present project on Thursday of this week.Law 120: Discussion of a court case. Research a current case, Justin Beiber, Amanda Knox, Woody Allen ect.
