Broadcast Journalism- Students will write their 1-page summary of their research that shows background knowledge. This will mean that students will have to investigate information that helps them gain a better insight into their topic. I should be able to read the write up and have a clear understanding as to the purpose and focus of the documentary. Outline all website used, all interview questions (guide) any surveys you will need, statistics used and times designated for filming. Once finished you may start your storyboards. History 112- July Crisis continued- Students will finish their research on their countries today and be able to support the needs and wants of their country, background information, identify who are alliances and enemies as well as reasons for and against war. Peace conference will begin tomorrow. Law 120- Students will finish Forensic Science presentations. Students will then review crime notes with teacher and then work on questions set out in chapter 6 of the text.

Broadcast Journalism- Students will spend the next two days getting research for their documentary. They will begin to draft the specific details of their topic. Today the students should be able to show research information and support why their documentary is important. They should make a list of specific questions for their interviews as well as all contacts they will need to make. They will then list credible websites that they have researched and list important information and direction for their inquiry. Include these in your study: 1.     Why is this topic important? 2.     Who is your target audience 3.     What results do you hope to gain from someone watching the interview? 4.     List credible websites and the outline the information used to generate your ideas.    History 112- Students will group themselves into 6 teams. We will spend the rest of the week in an exploration of a Peace Treaty in order to prevent WW1. Students will get a country, research the country and then bargain for what they want. Will there be peace? Law 120- Students will present their Forensics Presentation. Each group will offer insights into an area of Forensics and then show cases how this scientific method solves crimes.

Monday 19th, March 2012

Broadcast Journalism 120- Students will work in groups of 2-3. The students will write a proposal for a documentary. The documentary proposal should consist of your ideas, ideas for interviews, and the kind of footage you intend to use and the jobs that each member in your group would be responsible for.  Basically paint the picture for me. You may want to create a timeline to keep yourself focused. For example day by day expectation… by Wednesday our write up will be done outlining all of our background information ect. Modern History 112- Students will finish their assignments on the causes of WW1. Teacher will lead a discussion with students on the outbreak of war. Law120- Students will complete their project on Forensic Science. The projects will be presented tomorrow.

Broadcast Journalism: Students will all write a story about community and school. The stories should follow the article format discussed in class- 3-4 paragraphs- who/what/why/when/where and How. Students are also reminded that the announcements need to be completed. Extension- if students are finished, they should view a news type program and offer a review on it. Comment on the things you like and dislike. Comment on the camera positioning and editing, the cuts, the personalities in front of the camera, the use of b-roll and other stand ups.   History 112- Students will submit their isms project to the teacher. Teacher will then open discussion and begin WW1.   Law 120- Students will divide up into 6 groups to look at Forensic science. The groups should be even members and the students will take the next two days to prepare their presentations. Presentation will involve a 1-page outline given to teacher (one per group) include where you got your sources. And a 5 -7 presentation on one of the following: 1.     Handwriting analysis 2.     DNA mapping 3.     Fingerprinting 4.     Hair analysis 5.     Forensic dentistry 6.     Bugs and the body   Each presentation should include an understanding  as to how it works  as well as  discuss a case where forensic science produced evidence for conviction or evidence that freed someone.

Broadcast Journalism- Students have been working on recording and editing a video assignment. Students will complete their 30 second clip with voice over or stand up. Today all students will write a story about their community or school. The story must follow the guidelines established for a newspaper article. Submit stories for editing to Alex and begin shooting your videos for this week’s Friday broadcast.   History 112- Students have been working on their “isms” project. That will be due tomorrow. They will need to complete it today. When students are finished they will begin to look at WW1- students can begin their research to find the following: ·      What groups were involved in WW1 ·      What was the initial cause of WW1   Law120- Students have just finished watching the Allan Legere case- Teacher will lead a small discussion. They have been given 5 questions yesterday. Students must research and write a 1-page report on Allan Legere. Due tomorrow.

Broadcast Journalism: Students will look at how short news pieces are put together. They will obtain a piece of footage and add voice-overs or stand-ups to effectively convey a news bulletin. The video should be no longer than 30-45 seconds. History 112- Students will pair up and work on their “isms” project. (see attachment) Law 120-   Allen LeGere Video day #1 Establish a background of the suspect How was he caught? What was his crime under the criminal code, identify section. What evidences provided support to the crown's case against Legere? What was his sentence?

Broadcast Journalism- Students will have round table discussion and finalize all required work for the Tomorrow. Video and editing starts tomorrow. All stories are due. History 112- Students are working on their Industrial revolution project. Due on Thursday. Law 120- Teacher discussed the Criminal code of Canada. Students begin Fairy tale crime assignment- Due on Friday at the beginning of class. Who was Ashley Smith? Why was she sentenced? Summarize her experience. How was her behavior in the detention facility? What are your thoughts on the "fifth estate's presentation?" What biases did this media presentation of the Ashley Smith case present? Some say that there were violations of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in this case, defend your thoughts.

Broadcast Journalism- Students will have a round table discussion and present stories. The outline of the Broadcast Journalism show will be drafted. Students can work in groups to accomplish ideas for this format. The ideas should involve: The opening- effects- (what should it look like) The Name of the show (have a few ideas) Ideas on how we can showcase students and teachers Upcoming events for March and assignments Ideas on keeping students engaged. History 112- Students will work and finish their presentations on the industrial revolution. The students were given the assignment on Thursday of last week. Today the teacher will sit and sift through the information and talk wiht students about their ideas. Law 120- Students will start the unit on crime. Today will be a note taking class on the elements and concepts of crime. The students will look at the criminal code of Canada and be able to have an understanding as to the penalties of types of ciminal activity. Assignment- Fairy tale crimes.

Period #1- Broadcast Journalism- Students will have their morning meeting. Announcements (Brianna and Matthew- Heidi) Students are to Brainstorm their production. What will it look like? Segments? Transitions and other ideas. The show should start small and then we can build. The students will need a storyboard template for Monday. Line producer- will conduct the meeting and hand out assignments. Alex and Josh – Story board the show- what it looks like, what effects, theme ect. Writers- Heidi/Kate/Laura/Shauna/Marley/- Write their story- find B-roll- they should have their story written and give to Alex so tomorrow they can figure out a video segment. Anchors- Briana/ Matthew- Create an image for their audience. – Theses two should do the morning announcements- Let Heidi show them how. Tech-Gabba/Jeremy /Yanni- These boys need to work on research as to camera work- filming and setting up a shot. -rules on setting up a shot (rule of thirds/ framing/ leading lines/ look space ect.) –They need to go through tutorials online- Youtube on Premiere software.- Have them produce a piece of video- 2-3 minutes showing the rules of setting up and recording- they will present what they have learned. Sports Reporters- Justin and Jake- Write story- conduct interview- they need to write out interview questions- please do not let them pull students out- they can make arrangements to have the interviews for tomorrow. Period#3- History 112- Industrial Revolution with Mr. Noel- after which students will form 5 groups and begin working on presentations. the_industrial_revolution_project1.doc   Period #4-and 6 Law 120- Students will watch the 2nd video on the Ashley Smith Case. Broadcast Journalism- Teacher and students met around the table this morning for a Brainstorming session about the launch of a new JMH Broadcast show. The show will feature news around the world, community and school. Jobs were appointed today and students researched their roll. History 112- Students will finish their comparision of the four documents. The write up is due tomorrow. Law120- Students watched the video on the Ashely Smith Case. They will then spend the rest of the class time finding out more background information about the case. Students are also reminded that they must submit their guest speaker refelction assignment.
