English 9 - Hello!  Today, we completed our analysis of "Lose Yourself" (internal rhyme, assonance, purpose of stanzas, word choice, other figurative language...and more!), then you took a go at writing your OWN metaphors about what happens to us if/when we let our dreams die.  Both metaphors are to be completed for tomorrow.  Thanks! English 121 - Great start today on your Marlowe presentations!  We learned about the man himself, the theatre he worked in, and the life and times of an Elizabethan actor.  Well done!

English 9 - Hi there!  Today, you handed in your AotW and your One-Pager (thank you!), read for a little bit, then we added INTERNAL RHYME (adds rhythm and flow) and ASSONANCE (can make a line or a moment seem longer!) to your master list.  we'll continue with "Lose Yourself" tomorrow, then look at how line length is another trick used by poets and writers. English 121- Great discussion about last night's AotW.  Still pluggin' away for tomorrow...

Happy October...and welcome back, Tristan! English 9 - You received tonight's Article of the Week (due tomorrow), we reviewed the two terms we covered on Friday (metaphor and extended metaphor), and we added SPEAKER and NARRATIVE POETRY (with some help from "A Boy Named Sue").  Remember, your One-Pager is also due tomorrow. English 121 - Hi there!  You also received your Article of the Week (due tomorrow).  Remember, your frontloading assignment regarding Christopher Marlowe is due for Wednesday and your research essay with support is due Thursday.  Big week...

English 9 - Happy Friday!  In class today, you enjoyed some SSR (remember that your One-Pager is due on Tuesday!), then we reviewed figurative vs literal language, and added metaphor (Thanks, Ozzy, to your Crazy Train!) and extended metaphor ("Shut Up and Drive" and "My Dingaling") to your list of terms.  We'll keep on truckin' on Monday. English 121 - Hey-o!  Thanks for handing in your Reflections and being so diplomatic about selecting the topic you'll use to frontload Dr. Faustus for your classmates.  Remember that your research essay is due next Thursday, and your presentations will likely begin next Wednesday. Enjoy a safe weekend!

English 9 - Hi!  We completed our discussion of your Bloom's questions with The China Doll (awesome job, by the way!), then we intro'd your POETRY (I wish I could insert hearts here...) by taking a look at Figurative vs Literal language (thank you to Total Eclipse of the Heart).  Remember to bring your book in for SSR tomorrow.  You have a One-Pager due next Tuesday. English 121 - Hi to you, too!  We created your final rubric for your research essay today (due next Thursday) and decided that we'll be reading Christopher Marlowe's Dr. Faustus together.  LOVE that one!  Don't forget your Reflection for tomorrow.

English 9 - Hello!   Today, we completed a Warm-Up called "Who Owns This" (they were incredible!), then we discussed the first three level questions you completed for The China Doll.  The last five questions (the back side of the page) are due for tomorrow.  Except for period 1 - you only have the front side due. English 121 - Hey there!  Thanks for your summaries on the main players in Hiroshima. Your draft outline is due tomorrow...with a Reflection on Friday, of course.

Eng 9 - Hi there!  I hope you enjoyed the assembly today.  For periods 2 and 4, you need to complete the first 4 questions that go along with The China Doll story (it's the front of your yellow page) for tomorrow.  We'll do the rest together in class.  Period 1 - we'll do this tomorrow. Eng 121 - We had a great say about your Article of the Week and your Guiding Questions for section IV.  For tomorrow, select one of the main players in the last section, and write a short summary explaining how things turned out for that person.  You'll have some class time tomorrow for your draft outline, which is due on Thursday.

English 9 - You enjoyed some stimulating SSR today, then worked toward creating some really tremendous Bloom's questions for your kids' books.  I heard some great conversation happening around the room, too.  Good on ya'! English 121 - Thank you for handing in your Reflections today, and having some wonderful things to say about the third section of your novel.  Oh, thanks for writing the "Halfwayish Quiz", too!  For Tuesday, please read through the end of section IV. Have a safe and happy weekend, folks!

English 9 - Hi there!  Today, you handed in your letters (or finished them at lunch if necessary...grrrrrrr), then we reviewed Bloom's and got to work on your small group assignments, using childrens' books as the resource to write some great Bloom's questions of your own.  Please bring your books tomorrow for SSR, then we'll continue with today's assignment. English 121 - Hi to you, too!  In class this morning, I gave you the pre-writing outline form I'd like you to complete and confer with, we brainstormed some phenomenal ideas for your research essay (which MAY be due by the end of next week), then you worked on completing section II, which is due for tomorrow (along with your Reflection). Hope to see a boatload of your parents tonight!
