Eng. 112 -  Look again at question # 10 of "The Moose and the Sparrow". Answer it with a solid paragraph of writing. Eng. 111 - Read over the Prologue of "Romeo and Juliet". Provide a comprehensive summary and analyze what is being said in these 14 lines. Remember that the purpose of the prologue is to preview the major events and introduce the main plot and themes of the play. What can be said about the 14 line structure?

Writing 110 - finish work on your Biographical poem (to pass in). Preliminary thought on your "Name" writing piece. Eng 112 - Complete your "Simpsons" plotline (to pass in) and look over your short story notes. Eng 111 - Today your task will be to read Gregory Clark’s short story, The Bully, and create some questions and/or activities for another student in class to answer. Your assignment MUST contain : -          ONE Knowledge-level questions -          TWO Comprehension-level questions -          TWO Application-level questions -          TWO Analysis-level questions -          TWO Evaluation -level questions -          ONE Synthesis -level question ...for a TOTAL OF TEN questions! Beside each of your questions, please indicate which level of Bloom’s Taxonomy you believe it addresses.  Then, switch with someone in class, and answer each other’s questions to the best of your ability. You will be graded on: A.      The quality of your questions B.     The quality of your responses to a peer’s questions   Remember, this is about METACOGNITION – thinking about your thinking. It’s tough to tap into the upper levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy for Thinking without understanding it from the bottom up.

Writing 110 - your objective is to write a one page minimum (single spaced) response to one of the following. This is to pass in on Monday.Please choose one:  - Twenty, fifty, or one hundred years from now how do you think the events of September 11th, 2001 will be understood as part of the larger context of United States history? What about world history? In your opinion, what other events had a similar impact on U.S. or world history?  - How would you explain 9/11 today to someone who was born on September 12, 2001?  - Sally Regenhard laments “the four words no mother should ever hear” when she asks about her son: “I want to know where my son is,” she says. The official responds “He is unaccounted for.” She then reflects “That is something that happens in a war…”How would you react to being told that someone you loved was “unaccounted for”? Why might it matter to a person’s relatives that the person’s body be accounted for?   Eng 112 - Today in class we reviewed our notes on the short story. Class was assigned one of Aesop's short fables to read and transfer onto a plotline. Follow the example given today, this is to pass in on Monday. Review and re-read your notes on the short story, you will be tested!   Eng 111 - Today we completed and compiled our notes on Shakespeare and the drama of his age and you were assigned the song "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones. You are to go through the lyrics and identify the various types of allusion found within. See what you know on your own and use reputable sources before you consult Wikipedia ;)

Eng 111 - Finish reading your section of "Shakespeare's England" and be ready to compile your notes with your group to finalize your "master copy".   Eng 112 - Today in class we finished working with the sheet: "What do you remember about the short story?".  Review the notes on the short story given to you in class today. Here is a copy if you forgot to bring yours home:

Eng. 111 - Short story unit project proposal is due tomorrow. Eng. 112 - Today we moved onto the "Social Commentary" category of poetry. We looked at the WWI piece "Dulce et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen. Tomorrow we will look at its structure, formatting and move onto other anti-war examples.

Happy New Year and welcome back everybody!   Writing 110 - Your final project has been assigned: YOUR GOAL : TO CREATE A STORYBOOK A.    FOR A CHILD 6-8 YEARS OLD. OR B.     A PARODY OF A TRADITIONAL FAIRY TALE   You have the option to work alone or in a small group.  THIS IS AN IN CLASS FINAL PROJECT.   -          Must be illustrated - original sketches or cited clip art or pictures -          ­Be brief and keep the vocabulary at an appropriate level. -          No more than 3 or 4 sentences per page with a minimum of 8 pages in the actual story. -          Must be a complete story with beginning , middle and end. -          Moral - on last page -          Dedication and a meaningful quote- first page inside cover -          Elaborate, attractive cover with required info - AUTHORS NAMES, ILLUSTRATOR   Eng 111 - Complete the irony questions on Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery". We will work on the essay questions in groups on Monday. Eng 112 - This week we worked on two examples of Dramatic Poetry: Browning's "My Last Duchess" and Shakespeare's "Seven Ages of Man" monologue from the play "As You Like It". Questions for Duchess are attached and the assignment for the Seven Ages are as follows: In your own words, identify the seven specific stages of life in the speech. Quote from Jacques' monologue to back up your answer. What is the extended metaphor Shakespeare is using? Provide a detailed explanation. (This is to PASS IN for tomorrow).

Eng 112 - Review notes on Poe's "The Raven". Complete all unfinised work.

Writing 110 - New project introduced in class this week. Mr. O'Toole's Multimedia class is joining up with Writing 110 to tackle our next project: "Telling Stories With Sound". This product will take us to Christmas break with presentations on the 17th-18th. Details attached. Eng 111 - Finish reading the story "The Ambitious Guest" by Nathanial Hawthorne (pg. 348 of your text, you can also find it online) and answer the first part of the attached sheet. Your role is to read, re-read using skimming and scanning techniques to locate and copy specific information from the text. Eng 112 - Italian sonnets were tackled today. Your assignment has two options: A) Write a one page analysis/ interpretation of Milton's "When I Consider How my Light is Spent" or B) Write a properly formatted Italian or Shakespearian sonnet on a topic of your choice. Either of these options are to pass in tomorrow.
